Jefferson Matters: Main Street’s board of directors invites the public to view a movie directly related to their goals of a historic preservation of the downtown and transformation toward a vibrant and dynamic district.

The public is invited Wednesday morning as the spring recipient of the  DAISY Award is named at Greene County Medical Center. The ceremony will be held at 10 am in the education classroom. (Use the main entrance. Wayfinding signage will be posted.) Nominees are Sarah Borgeson, Karen Carman, Jill Juergensen, Brenda Luther, Victoria McCool, Tammy Spaulding and Kelsey Stumbo.

The Jefferson public library will host Michigan author Bill Jamerson on Saturday, May 14, at 10:30 am at the First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson. Jamerson will present a music and storytelling program about the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC).  The program is free and open to the public. 

The public is invited to dinner at the Elks lodge Thursday, May 12, at 6:30 pm. The Elks will serve fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp, salad and dessert. Tickets are $12. Reservations are requested; please call 515-386-2106 by May 11. The lodge is handicap accessible.

How long does it take a relay team to run from Jefferson to Des Moines? The answer Saturday was anywhere between 7 hours, 21 minutes, 5 seconds and 14 hours, 11 minutes, 10 seconds, as demonstrated by about 2,500 runners who ran the Market to Market Relay Iowa down the Raccoon River Trail.

Jefferson received 1.8 inches of rain during the week that ended Friday, May 6, with most of it falling April 30. KCCI’s SchoolNet Jefferson site reported a high temperature of 89 degrees and the end of the week and an overnight low of  42 degrees.
