The Rippey and Jefferson United Methodist Churches will host Katherine Parker, a missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church next Tuesday, April 12.
Parker is presently serving in Nepal. She served at the Asian Rural Institute in Japan, Practical Farmers of Ames in Iowa, and with the Community Health and Agricultural Development program in Cambodia before her present position with the Health Team of the United Mission to Nepal. Since the earthquake in Nepal she has been onsite dealing with this natural disaster.
She has considerable experience with agricultural programs that include farming, rice co-ops, water, sanitation and hygiene, and working with livestock.
A native of California, her undergraduate and master’s degrees are from educational institutions there. She has deep roots in United Methodism due to grandparents, aunt and cousins who have served as United Methodist clergy. From a young age, Katherine wanted to be involved in mission work and to date she has had numerous assignments.
Parker will speak at the Methodist Church in Rippey at 10 am hosted by Pastor Paul Burrow. She will speak from 12 to 1:30 pm at the Jefferson United Methodist Church. A light lunch will be served. For planning purposes, please RSVP to Pastor Julie Poulsen at 515-386-4411.
