4-HHardin Happy Hustlers 4-H

The Hardin Happy Hustlers held their meeting at the Greene County Extension office on Sunday, February 7, at 2 pm. 

There were 15 members in attendance. There was no January meeting as the club did its fun activity last month and attended Hidden Acres in Dayton for a day of swimming, games and pizza. 

New business was discussed regarding FSQA training and testing that will be coming up in April. Any 4-H exhibitor showing livestock needs to make sure their certification is up to date. Swine weigh in will be held Saturday, March 12, from 8 – 9:30. Reminder of new member night on Friday, February 19, at the Extension Office with bowling and pizza to follow. Our new county youth coordinator Kayla Hyett attended the meeting to meet the 4-H members and answer questions. 

Our March meeting will be held on Sunday, March 6, at the Middle School. There will be time after the meeting for basketball practice for the upcoming 4-H basketball tournament on March 13 at Scranton.

Presentations were given by Nick Killion on how to braid leather horse reins, Eliot Schilling on adult coloring books and Zachery Burbank on cattle grooming equipment.

The meeting adjourned with Ava Schilling leading the 4-H pledge. Snacks and drinks were provided by Jack, Elliott and Ava Schilling.          

There were 19 members present at the March 6 meeting at the Greene County Middle School.

Members who plan to show livestock at the Greene County Fair need to make sure their FSQA certification is current or attend an upcoming training on Saturday, April 16, from 9 – 10:30 am or test out on Tuesday, April 19, between 3 – 5 pm. Contact the Extension office to let them know which session you plan to attend.

Remember to wear your 4-H club T-shirt to the annual Greenbrier basketball T\tournament on Sunday, March 13, at the Scranton gym. Contact the Extension office if you are interested in the market lamb community barn program. Also coming up is the next Shooting Sports meeting on Thursday, March 17, at 5 pm at the Extension office. 

Babysitting Basics will be offered to Greene County fifth and sixth graders on Saturday, April 2 and 9. Cost is $25 if you register by March 28.

The next beef project meeting is scheduled for April 3 at Dax Lautner’s farm. It will start at 4 pm with pizza to follow. For more information, contact the Extension office at 515-386-2138.

There is an Omaha Zoo trip planned for fifth and sixth grade 4-H members at the end of May. Contact the Extension office if interested in attending.

Presentations were given by lzzy Bravard on “how to make your own play gym for cats,” Jack Schilling on “Type I Diabetes,” and Alex Cerveny on “different types of photography.” Alex and Carson Cerveny provided drinks for the club.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:45 pm. Following the meeting the group practiced basketball in the gym.
