Severe weather drill postponed to Thursday morning

The severe weather drills scheduled for Wednesday have been postponed to Thursday due to severe weather predicted for parts of Iowa on Wednesday. There will be a drill severe weather watch Thursday at 10 am, followed by a drill tornado warning at 10:15.

All storm sirens in the county will be activated at 10:15, said Dennis Morlan, Greene County Emergency Management and Homeland Security coordinator. Morlan asks that all safety agencies, health care facilities, businesses, etc participate in the annual drill.

Morlan also noted that the Greene County E 9-1-1 service board has adopted a new policy calling for sounding the storm sirens the first Saturday of every month at noon. The sirens will be activated for a complete three minute cycle. The batteries in each siren cost $460, and Morlan said “in the best interests of the sirens, the batteries should be ‘exercised’ on a monthly basis.”
