“It’s spring – what’s growing in Greene County?” is the tagline for a town hall meeting next Monday, March 21, at 6 pm at the Greene County Community Center in Jefferson. Greene County Development Corporation, hosts of the meeting, invites and encourages all area residents to attend.
Speakers will provide updates about several ongoing and upcoming projects.
Jefferson city administrator Mike Palmer will provide an update on revitalization of Jefferson’s downtown area. An application is pending on a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant application for façade restoration, but the city has pledged to fund up to $250,000 in restoration projects with or without grant funding. Two projects – the former Linda’s Fashions building and 205 N. Wilson – are already in progress.
Peg Raney, program director for Jefferson Matters: Main Street will update the audience on projects.
Stefanie Koenig, regional director of the Small Business Development Center in Fort Dodge, will provide information of assistance available to start a new business.
Greene County Schools superintendent Tim Christensen will provide an update on the schools and a possible September referendum on a bond issue.
Carla Offenburger, director of community relations at Greene County Medical Center, will provide an update on Phase Two of the expansion project there.
Angie Pedersen, tourism and events coordinator for the Greene County Chamber of Commerce, will tell of her efforts, including the 2016 Bell Tower Festival. She plans to unveil the logo for the festival at the town hall meeting.
Cherie Cerveny, director of the Greene County Early Learning Center, will discuss the status of the ELC.
Finally, Ken Paxton, executive director of GCDC, will provide updates of GCDC projects and then open the floor for questions and answers.
