The Jefferson park and recreation department is accepting registration for several popular activities.
Persons of all ages are invited to attend the Shrine Circus in Des Moines next Saturday, March 19. Shriners are providing free tickets for all those who ride a bus from the Greene County Community Center to the circus. There is no charge to ride the bus.
The bus will depart from the Community Center at 12:30 pm. Children in fifth grade or younger must be chaperoned by an adult. Pre-registration is required as the trip is limited to 60 persons.
Rowdy Rodeo Wranglers will have their jamboree Saturday, March 19, from 9 to 10 am at the Community Center. Children ages 3-6 are invited to come make the acquaintance of a stick pony and then “compete” in modified rodeo events like barrel racing and calf roping.
The ponies go home with their new owners when the fun is finished. A $15 charge covers expenses.
The Jefferson Kiwanis Club is partnering with the park and recreation department for the annual Easter egg hunt, slated for Saturday, March 26. Same-day registration will begin at 9:30 am and the hunt will begin at 10 at the Community Center.
Children will “hunt” for eggs in four different age categories, from toddlers through third grade. Local businesses provide candy and prizes, and all children are guaranteed to receive an egg.
Pre-registration is appreciated but not required.
Finally, mini track will begin Tuesday, March 29, for children in grades 3-6, and Thursday, March 31, for children in grades K-2.
Mini track meets from 5:15 to 6 pm Tuesday or Thursday through April 26. Children will run sprints, distances and relays as the prepare for the IPRA local meet April 26.
There is a $20 charge for mini track.
