“Social Media and Your Small Town Business” is the topic for an informal seminar hosted by the Greene County Chamber of Commerce’s business improvement committee Thursday, March 10.
Roy Hoyt, owner of Impact Media, will talk about using Facebook, Twitter, and other social media to promote business. “Social media is not just about a connection to your business,” Hoyt said. “The real power of social media is the ‘relationship’ it builds almost instantly with potential customers. If you think about how you attract and retain customers as a small town business, often it is because you have a relationship with the customer or someone they know. This is exactly how it works – and should be thought of – on social media platforms today.”
Hoyt will discuss several tools and informational outlets for advertising and building a social media presence that will not only attract new customers, but also support current customers. “Just like in our small community, your current customers are extremely important to your business,” Hoyt said.
Topics will include selecting which social media sites to use, what a profile should contain, what a business owner should post, growing an audience, tools to manage the time spent on social media, and using paid advertising on social media.
The informal seminar will be held at the club house at the Jefferson Community Golf Course. A social time with light snacks provided and a cash bar available will begin at 5 pm. Hoyt will begin his presentation at 5:30, with time for questions afterward. The event is free for Chamber of Commerce members; non-members are welcome at a $15 charge.
“We’re excited to have Rob as the first presenter for what we hope will be the first in a series of these informal seminars,” said Tori Riley, chair of the business improvement committee. “If you’re already using social media, come learn a trick or two and share what has worked for you. If you haven’t explored it yet, this is a no-risk time to ask your questions. The refreshments will be plentiful, and so will the conversation.”
In order to assist with planning, RSVPs are requested by close of business Wednesday, March 9. Call the Chamber office at 515-386-2155 or email angie@greenecountyiowa.com
