More than 30 people gathered to form a “cash mob” in Jefferson last Saturday.
The group called themselves “economic activists” as they drew the name of a local retailer out of the hat. Ben Franklin/Tech Zone was the destination for each person to spend at least $20 each.
Lori Smith, a co-owner of Ben Franklin, reported more $700 in sales during the hour the cash mob was in the store.
The group moved to another Main Street location, Uptown Café, for lunch. Receipts were put in a hat and Nancy Teusch won a $25 gift certificate to another downtown location, Sierra Theatre.
The promotion committee of Jefferson Matters: Main Street organized this event and plans to host more in the future.
