Ram wrestlers sophomore Kane Borgeson (113) and senior Tommy Bradshaw (152) earned places on the mat at the Class 2A state wrestling tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
Bradshaw, 39-1 for the season, placed first at the District 8 tournament Saturday in Webster City. He won a 8-0 major decision over sophomore Zane Williams (29-18) of Webster City in the first round, and then won by decision 6-2 over senior Race Brant (50-7) of Woodward-Granger.
Borgeson, 19-11 on the season, placed second Saturday. He lost by fall in 1:25 to senior Justin Portillo (35-2) of Clarion-Goldfield-Dows in the first round, but won his consolation match 6-4 in sudden victory over senior Ty Turner (38-15) of Woodward Granger. He claimed second place by default after freshman Drake Doolittle (37-6) of Webster City was disqualified for a move that resulted in an injury to Borgeson. It is unknown as of Sunday if Borgeson will be able to wrestle Thursday.
Class 2A state wrestling begins Thursday, Feb. 18, at 6 pm, with the quarterfinals Friday afternoon, the semifinals Friday evening, and the finals Saturday morning.
Ram junior Isaiah Yoder (160, 36-17) lost by ball in :46 to in the first round to senior Ryan Ferrari (34-9) of Webster City, and lost in the consolation bracket by a 12-7 decision to senior Josh Strohman (24-4) of Algona.
