Greene County High School students traveled to Waukee Saturday for the Iowa High School Speech Association’s state large group contest.
Five groups qualified for the state competition based on their performances two weeks earlier in Huxley.
The ensemble acting group of Michael Kennedy and Kara Betts received an overall rating of “I” with a performance of “Our Depression Speech.” The group was not nominated for All-State honors.
The choral reading, readers’ theater, one act play and musical theater groups all received overall “II” ratings. Each performance at the state contest is evaluated by a panel of three judges.
The speech team is now preparing for the individual events contest Saturday, Feb. 27.
Greene County speech coaches are Kelley Gray and Darren Jackson.
