Students in grades 2-8 at Greene County Elementary, Greene County Intermediate and Greene County Middle Schools are jumping and basketball shooting at the chance to fight heart disease and stroke, the nation’s No. 1 and No. 3 killers, respectively.
From Jan. 29 through Feb. 15, students will be participating in Jump Rope and Hoops For Heart as a community service project.
Students will raise funds for the American Heart Association, which funds cardiovascular disease research and public and professional education programs, while learning about building a heart healthy lifestyle. Money raised by the event will go to fund potentially lifesaving research and educational and community programs.
“Our three schools raised more than $15,000 last year and helped save over 300 lives,” Greene County physical education teacher Lori Danner said. “Please help our students help others. When a student asks you to be a sponsor, support Jump Rope/Hoops For Heart with whatever you can afford to give.”
Jump Rope/Hoops For Heart are jointly sponsored by the American Heart Association and the Society of health and Physical Education Educators (SHAPE).
