Rippey Lions: The Rippey Lions Club met Jan. 4 for a potluck meal. Following the meal, the business meeting included plans for the food to be served at the Bike Ride to Rippey (BRR) on Feb. 6. This includes preparing food, serving, etc. Dale Hanaman is the coordinator for this event.

In addition to members, guests were Mike Phelan of Berkley, Toni Roberts and Mary Weaver of Rippey. Phil Roberts introduced Mike Phelanm who presented the program about Beaver Creek Produce, a business he and his brother started two years ago. They provide hydroponic produce including various varieties of lettuce, herbs and tomatoes and cucumbers year round. Their produce is available in 25 Hy-Vee stores in central Iowa.

REMINDER: When Greene County Schools close because of the weather, so does the Rippey public library.

January programs: Check with the library for dates and times. Minions movie; sock snowman craft, bingo, coloring contest, possible beginning genealogy if there’s interest.

Jan. 18: Coffee ‘n’ Bingo sponsored by the Rippey Lions Club at the Rippey library. Myron and Maralynn Rinker are in charge of the laughter.

The Rippey Ladies Aid met Jan. 7. Nancy Hanaman presented the program, “Simple Gifts.” Midge Vannatta provided the refreshments.

News in and around Rippey: Despite the weather, Christmas Eve guests in the home of Virgene Morse were Diane and Terry Ostendorf, Michaela and Madelyn of Madrid, Kevin and Delores Blanshan of Waterloo, Eric Blanshan of Littleton, CO, and Kelsey Blanshan of Ankeny.  They enjoyed catching up as well as a soup supper and games. They gathered again Christmas Day, along with Ben Ostendorf. They ate, played games and had their gift exchange. Diane and Terry Ostendorf, Michaela and Madelyn spent the weekend after New Year’s at Virgene’s doing some plumbing and other jobs for her. They enjoyed a lasagna dinner and some good laughs! Last weekend Kelsey Blanshan spent Sunday at Grandma’s for a pizza dinner. They made cookies and hung curtains and Virgene started a cookbook for her granddaughter. Nancy and Dale Hanaman traveled to Hilton Coliseum for the Iowa State women’s basketball game on Saturday. Fortunately, on the chilly night, the ISU women prevailed over Kansas.
