Paton-Churdan girls basketball coach Chris Petersen was satisfied with his team’s 65-56 win over Ar-We-Va in Westside Jan. 5. “The girls played their most complete game of the year. We did a great job of keeping the intensity up on both sides of the court for four quarters,” he said. “We limited our turnovers and played very fundamentally sound basketball. Overall, it was a great team effort and gets the second half of the season started on a great foot.”
P-C finished the first quarter with a two point lead, 18-16, and steadily built the lead as the game progressed. The score at halftime was 35-29, and the score after three quarters was 47-39.
Senior Carleigh Paup again demonstrated “fundamentally sound” basketball. Her 28 points included 10 of 13 from the free throw line. She had six rebounds, six steals and four assists.
Sydney Koch scored 12 points and was three of four in free throws. Kasey Lane scored 11 points with five of six free throw shooting. Lane lead P-C in rebounds with 11 and in blocks with three. Jenna Beyers scored seven points and made her one free throw. She had seven rebounds. Grace Geisler added three points and Megan Carey added two, making two of five shots from the charity line.
The Paton-Churdan girls are 6-4 in the Rolling Valley Activities Conference and overall. They play EHK in Exira Friday.
