Plenty of snow and record-breaking precip in Jefferson

County residents had just dug out from the 5.8 inches of Christmas snow when another 4.8 inches fell Dec. 29. According to volunteer weather observer John Beltz, Jefferson received a total of 10.9 inches of snow from Christmas Eve through New Year’s Eve.

Beltz said that 7.1 inches of snow is average for December. The snow, along with nearly 2 inches of rain that fell Dec. 13-14, gave Jefferson a total of 5.73 inches of precipitation for the month, breaking the record for the wettest December by more than an inch.

The Jefferson street crew worked Sunday, Dec. 27, cleaning up the windrows of snow still left from Christmas Eve in anticipation of the Monday snowstorm. The snow was hauled to the parking area at the east softball complex. The photo was taken Sunday afternoon.
