A Des Moines woman was killed in a one vehicle accident that occurred Saturday, Dec. 26, on Highway 25 south of Scranton.
According to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, the accident occurred at 6:47 pm just north of 280th St in Scranton Township. Ashley Andrews, 20, of Scranton was southbound driving a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu. She drove onto the shoulder, and her passenger, Sydney Thomas, 20, of Des Moines, grabbed the steering wheel to help the driver correct her steering.
Between them, they over corrected. The car went into the ditch and rolled twice. Thomas, who the report says was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Anderson was wearing a seat belt and was injured in the accident. She was transported to Greene County Medical Center by the Scranton fire department.
The Greene County sheriff’s office also assisted at the scene.
