In Greene County district court Jerry Dean Barker, 52, of Jefferson was sentenced to prison Dec. 11 on charges of possession of a firearm as a felon and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver. On each of the counts he was sentenced to five years in prison, with the terms concurrent. The prison terms were suspended and he was placed on probation for three years. On the firearm charge, Barker was fined $750 with a $262.50 surcharge. On the marijuana charge, he was fined $750 with a $262.50 surcharge, a $10 surcharge for drug abuse resistance education (DARE) and a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative (LEI) surcharge, and his driver’s license was revoked for 180 days. Brandon Michael Mitchell, 23, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty Dec. 11 to a charge of fraudulent practice-third degree. Richard Dean Stinson, 26, of Coon Rapids was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of impersonating a public official. He was placed on probation for two years, and a judgment was entered for a $625 civil penalty, restitution for his court appointed attorney to be determined, and $140 court costs. Jerry Wayne Kobrock, 64, of Des Moines was sentenced to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of driving while license barred, amended from driving while license barred-habitual offender. The prison term was suspended and he was place on probation for one year. A judgment was entered for a $625 fine with a $218.75 surcharge and $100 court costs. The court determined Kobrock is unable to pay $120 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees. (Sentencing: Kester)
Christopher Simon Hernandez, 29, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after he pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal mischief-third degree, amended from criminal mischief-second degree. He was placed on probation for two years. A judgment was entered for a $625 civil penalty and $250 restitution to the Jefferson police department. He must pay restitution for his court appointed attorney in an amount to be determined and $121 court costs. A companion case in magistrate court in which Hernandez was charged with violation of a no contact order was dismissed. Hernandez was assessed $60 court costs in that case. (Sentencing: Kester)
Fredrick Joseph Joy, 55, of Carroll was fined $65 after he pleaded guilty to a charge of theft-fifth degree, amended from operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent. Joy must also pay a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 LEI surcharge, restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees to be determined, and $143 court costs. (Sentencing: Kester)
Jody Lynn Schad, 40, of Jefferson was sentenced to two years in prison after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of driving while license barred. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for one year. He was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge; both were suspended. The court determined Schad is unable to pay $120 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees. A judgment was entered for $121 court costs. A companion case in magistrate court in which Schad was charged with theft-fifth degree was dismissed. A judgment was entered for $80 court costs in that case. (Sentencing: Kester)
Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignments as follows: Michael Anthony Long, 55, of Grand Junction, sex abuse-second degree, lascivious acts with a child-fondle or touch; and Tyler Cordell Kirby, 34, of Des Moines, possession of methamphetamine-third or subsequent offense. Trial dates were set for Jan. 26 in both cases.
