“Iowa Nice Guy” Scott Siepker as speaker; ABC Award presentation
Scott Siepker, the “Iowa Nice Guy,” will entertain at the Greene County Chamber of Commerce’s annual meeting Jan. 18.
“We’re really excited to have Scott Siepker coming to Greene County,” said Angie Pedersen, tourism and events coordinator for the Chamber. “He’s cool and he’s funny, and anyone who can get more than 1 million people to watch a video about Iowa surely has a lot he can share with our members.”
Siepker, a native of Mount Carmel in Carroll County, is the host of the Emmy-nominated Iowa Outdoors on Iowa Public Television and an adjunct assistant professor of theatre arts at Drake University. He is a regular Friday afternoon guest on WHO-Radio’s “Murph and Andy” Show while keeping up a busy calendar of speaking engagements.
He first acted on stage at Iowa State University while he was earning a bachelor of science degree in psychology. His acting career catapulted with a two minute video produced by his film company, Iowa Filmmakers, shortly before the 2012 Iowa caucuses. The film, “Iowa Nice,” is a fast-moving, hard-edged litany of facts about Iowa that dispel the stereotype of Iowans as ultra-conservatives. “Iowa Nice” was mentioned on CNN and most major political news media.
Siepker then produced “Hawkeye Nice” and “Cyclone Nice,” and did football commentary for two seasons of ESPN’s “College Football Daily.” He was commissioned by the Iowa Farm Bureau to produce “Farmer Nice” for the Farm Bureau’s 2015 annual meeting. Click here for more information about Siepker.
Home State Bank, Greene County Medical Center, Raccoon Valley Radio and Wind Utility consulting are sponsoring Siepker’s appearance.
The Chamber annual meeting is slated for Monday, Jan. 18, at the Elks lodge in Jefferson. The doors will open at 5:30 pm for a social hour featuring jazz by the Greene County High School jazz band. A roast beef dinner prepared by the Does will be served at 6:15, followed by a brief business meeting that will include a presentation of the 2016 Chamber budget.
The presentation of the annual Above and Beyond the Call (ABC) Award will move the evening from business to entertainment. Siepker’s talk will follow the ABC Award announcement.
“We invite everyone, members and non-members, too, to come to the annual meeting, do some networking, hear a fast recap of the past year and our vision and budget for 2016, and then get ready to laugh with the ‘Iowa Nice Guy’,” Chamber president Omega Sang said. “We’re grateful to our meeting sponsors for their help in securing a great speaker, and we think it will be a memorable evening and a good way to begin a new year for the Chamber.”
