The Rotary Club of Jefferson is now accepting applications for grants from the proceeds of its 2015 charity auction.
For the past 16 years, the club has directed proceeds from its annual charity auction to worthy non-profit organizations and projects throughout Greene County. More than $330,000 has been aimed at helping schools, libraries, community organizations and other entities make improvements and services that benefit the county’s quality of life.
Last year approximately $33,000 was awarded to 29 different organizations and projects, such as the public libraries of Churdan, Jefferson, Paton, Rippey and Grand Junction, Greene County Early Learning Center, Greene County Historical Society, Greene County Community School District, the Helping Hands program of Habitat for Humanity, Webb House, Jefferson Boy Scouts, Bell Tower Community Foundation, Junior Archery Club, Genesis Development, Christian Action Resource Center, Adopt a Family, New Opportunities, Kids with a Connection mentoring program, Scranton Community Center and the Sierra Community Theatre.
These grants would not have been possible without the generous support of many donors and supporters in the county and elsewhere that contribute year after year to the success of the annual auction. The auction not only raises needed funds for worthy projects but is also an opportunity for an evening of unique fellowship and entertainment.
The application process is open to non-profit organizations whose programs or projects benefit others in the areas of peace, conflict resolution and other social issues; fighting disease and promoting health; providing clean water/environmental issues; economic and community development; and youth/education and literacy.
Organizations are not required to have a 501(c)(3) IRS designation. Applications, policies and guidelines can be obtained online at www.jeffersonrotary.org or at the Greene County Chamber office, Iowa State University Extension – Greene County office, all Greene County public libraries, Home State Bank, and Peoples Trust & Savings Bank locations throughout the county.
Applications must be either mailed to the post office box shown on the application or dropped off at the location shown on the application. Deadline for applying is March 1, 2016. Grants will be awarded in April. Questions may be directed to Mike Palmer, chair – 2015 Rotary auction, at 515-386-3111.
