December coloring contest is underway.
The book sale will continue until the end of December.
On Wednesday, Dec. 9, Stacie Steveson, Ready for School specialist from Iowa Public Television, visited the Rippey public library. She spent time introducing new resources to help promote the connections between public media and early literacy and math skills. A new Ready for School Library Corner, featuring a Peg + Cat standing character, a colorful rug and a standing tower featuring several IPTV characters, provide a colorful space where families, children and the librarian can spend time with age-appropriate materials for use. Also, online resources include PBS KIDS Lab, a website with more than 140 games and hands-on activities that help to build early math and literacy skills.
The kids watched an episode of Odd Squad and were able to test their theories on a couple of engineering skills that Steveson had for them to do. There are PBS KIDS DVD’s, Martha Speaks Read Aloud books and resources provided for the kids at the library.
The Rippey library thanked IPTV for providing the library corner and Steveson for an enjoyable time of learning.

Christmas program: The Rippey United Methodist Church Sunday school Christmas program, “Just A Little Christmas,” was presented by the youth during worship on Dec. 13. The characters included Mary, Mary Hick; Joseph, Aden Bardole; angel, Avery Bardole; Caesar Augustus/King Herod, Arthur Bardole; kings, Courtney Johnson and Kaitlyn McColley; shepherds, Emma McColley and Kendall Griffin; and soldier, Dylan Ades. The special music, “God’s Greatest Gift of All” was presented by the youth choir. It was an entertaining and well done play by this great group of youth.
Thursday, Dec. 24: 8 pm Christmas Eve service at Rippey United Methodist Church.
All church offices will be closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
News in and around Rippey: Roy and Phyllis Bardole left Tuesday, Dec. 3, toward Wisconsin. They stayed in Dubuque that night and the next morning toured the Mississippi River Museum. They left at noon and went on to Wauwatosa to visit their son and family, Jason, Allison, Levi, Kate, and Chase.
It was a fun weekend. Roy and Jason finished several projects and Saturday afternoon they went to pick out and cut their Christmas tree. The evening was spent getting out the ornaments and decorating the house. St. Nick comes on the evening of Dec. 6 so they needed to finish that evening. The tree looked a little sparse at the bottom. Chase, who an active 1-1/2- old, can reach up a long way! He kept redecorating the tree. Coming home Dec. 7 to unusually nice weather was a nice surprise, Phyllis said.
Jack and Dixie Slight of Perry hosted a group of long-time friends in their home on Friday afternoon, Dec. 11. Those attending were Gary and Mary Weaver, Lana Miller, Jack and Betty Lint, Myron and Maralynn Rinker, Sharon Laub, and Jean Borgeson. Regrets were sent by Larry Miller. Their children started to school together and were active in the music, drama, sports, and other activities during their years at East Greene. The friendships forged during this time have lasted well into sharing the loss of friends, marriages and births of grandchildren. While there are some empty chairs, they find they can still laugh and remember the fun stuff.
