November warmer, wetter than normal

November was warmer than usual, but despite that, Jefferson received more snow than usual for the month.

According to volunteer weather observer John Beltz, the average high temperature was 51.6 degrees and the average low temperature was 32.6 degrees. Normal is an average high of 45.5 degrees and an average low of 25.6 degrees.

High temperature for the month was 78 degrees on Nov. 3. There were four days early in the month that were 70 degrees or warmer, and nine days when the high temperature was 60 degrees or warmer. The record high temperature for November in Jefferson is 81 degrees set on Nov. 1, 1938.

Low temperature for the month was 10 degrees on Nov. 22. (The daytime high that day was only 24 degrees.) There were 15 nights when the low temperature was above freezing. Record low temperature for November is -9 degrees on Nov. 7, 1991.

Jefferson received 4.0 inches of snow, while 3.0 inches is normal for November. The entire amount fell Nov. 21. Jefferson received 3.14 inches of rain.  Beltz calculated the snowfall as .53 inch of precipitation, for total precipitation of 3.67 inches for the month. Normal precipitation is 1.92 inches.
