Jeff council okays Wild Rose permit cost, bids farewell to Black

The Jefferson city council set the price tag at $5,000 for the building permits for Wild Rose Jefferson. That action was taken at the council’s Dec. 8 meeting.

The charges associated with a building permit are to cover the cost of necessary building inspections. City administrator Mike Palmer reminded the council that because state building inspectors would be involved with the casino project, the building permit was granted with an understanding that the cost would be determined after the project was complete.

Palmer said Tuesday that Wild Rose officials were agreeable to that cost. Palmer told GreeneCountyNewsOnline that the full amount of the building permit would have been $37,500, and that adjustments are very often made when state inspectors are involved. The cost of a building permit is meant only to cover the city’s actual cost, he added.

In other business, the council presented outgoing council member Shannon Black with a framed certificate and held a brief reception following the meeting. Black served two four-year terms on the council. She and her family have moved to a country address; she did not run for re-election to the council.

The certificate commended Black “for outstanding performance and lasting contributions to the city council.” Palmer named the Highway 4 overpass and the casino as two projects Black can be proud of.

“It’s been a pretty good eight years,” Black said.  “We’ve accomplished a lot together with everybody in this room, and a lot of people who aren’t in this room, too. I’m happy to have been a part of that and to have worked with everyone. I have a lot of respect for each and every one of you and the skills and experience and knowledge that you all bring to the table. I certainly learned a lot.”

In council member reports, Lisa Jaskey reported attending a Greene County Development Corporation board meeting Tuesday at which Don Orris made a presentation about a new animal shelter. The site under consideration is in GCDC’s west business park south of Syngenta on N. Elm St.

The council also approved a motion waiving the second December meeting. The council will meet again Jan. 12, 2016.
