Chamber to host Santa, a free movie, and more

Santa and Bell Tower w Chamber logoThe Greene County Chamber of Commerce has special plans for the next two Saturdays. All are invited.

Santa and Mrs Claus will be in their special Winter Wonderland Saturdays, Dec. 12 and Dec. 19, from 10 am to noon. Winter Wonderland is located at the Masonic lodge (formerly Figenshaw Furniture) on the west side of the square in Jefferson.

All children who visit Santa will receive a goody bag that includes a ticket for an adult to accompany them on a ride to the top of the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower. Children can ride to the top at no charge any time, and the tickets from Santa will let families create a holiday tradition of a bell tower visit together.

The bell tower will be open from 10 am to 2 pm both Saturdays so families have time to shop or have lunch and still have time to check out Greene County from 120 feet.

Christmas VacationAll are invited to watch National Lampoon’s “Christmas Vacation” Saturday, Dec. 12, at noon at the Sierra Community Theatre. There is no charge for the classic Christmas comedy, thanks to sponsorship by MacDonald Insurance. Concessions will be available.

Also, children in grades kindergarten through fifth are invited to participate in a Hometown Holidays coloring contest sponsored by A & W Family Restaurant and Pizza Ranch, with assistance from the Bee & Herald. Coloring sheets have been sent home from school with students, or they’re available at the Chamber of Commerce website at www.greenecountyiowa.com. They should be returned to the Bee & Herald office at 200 N. Wilson by Dec. 21.

The Holiday Activity Guide, listing holiday events all over Greene County, is now available at many locations. The guide is sponsored by GreeneCountyNewsOnline and the Chamber’s emerald members – Home State Bank, Peoples Trust & Savings Bank, and Wild Rose Casino.

The Christmas Certificate Give-Away continues, with drawings still slated for Dec. 14 and Dec. 21. Shoppers can register at any participating business to win $50 in Christmas Certificates redeemable at any participating business.

Participating businesses include Peony Chinese Restaurant, The Printer’s Box, Addie’s, Homestead Coffee and Bakery, Don’s Ace Hardware, Fudge’s Flower Shop and Gifts, Angie’s Tea Garden, Jefferson Family Chiropractic, Pizza Ranch, Bee & Herald, Royal Jewelers, Ben Franklin, Gift Garden at Greene County Medical Center, Krieger’s Flower Shop, McAtee Tire and Service Center, Shopko, Deal’s Orchard, Iowa Store at Wild Rose Casino and Country Blessings.

“There’s no better place than home during the holidays, whether you’re shopping or creating lasting memories for your children,” said Chamber board secretary Tori Riley. “We’re happy to present ‘Hometown Holidays,’ and we wish all of you a great holiday season.”
