The Jefferson veterans groups – Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and the VFW auxiliary – announced the winners of four turkeys and three hams in a raffle drawing held last week. Winners were Melissa Higgins, Angela Jennings, Gib Sukovaty, Dean Dozier, Tim McCoy, Larry Sellers and Mark Kendall.
The groups thanked all who purchased tickets in the first annual holiday raffle, as well as the Jefferson Fareway and Hy-Vee stores for allowing them to sell tickets at their stores. Proceeds from the raffle will go into the building fund.
They also thanked all who attended the potato bar fundraiser Nov. 9, and noted that the chili made by Dave and Pat McQuillen was “the best ever.” They thanked Home State Bank for providing two decorated sheet cakes for the supper, and Greene County High School art teacher Sarah Stott and her students for donating their artistic talent in creating a sidewalk sign.
The veterans remind the public that the VFW Hall at 109 N. Chestnut St in Jefferson is available to rent for holiday events or parties. A full kitchen area is available, as well as plentiful seating arrangements. For more information contact Don Ihnken at 515-386-4933.
