Greene County High School’s annual leak raking service project grew to 133 yards in Jefferson, Scranton and Grand Junction.  Students, teachers, and community volunteers enjoyed temperatures in the low 70s as they raked the afternoon of Tuesday, Nov. 3. According to teacher Teresa Green, the project allows students to show their appreciation for everything the communities do for the schools.

The Churdan public library is hosting a guided painting class Sunday, Nov. 15, from 2 to 4 pm at the library. Proceeds will go into the building addition fund. Artist Lou Blanchfield will lead painters at all skill levels through painting a carrot-nosed, button-eyed snowman. Refreshments will be served.

All area residents are invited for breakfast the Elks lodge next Sunday, Nov. 15, from 9 am to 1 pm. The Elks will prepare and serve French toast bake, biscuits with sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, bacon, fruit, and coffee, milk and juice.

Scranton Betterment will host a pancake supper Saturday, Nov. 14, from 5 to 6:30 pm at the Scranton Community Center lunch room. (Diners are asked to use the south entrance.) Carry-outs will be available by calling ahead to 712-652-3344. A free will donation will be accepted.

Greene County 4-H members and volunteers will be recognized for their achievements and contributions at the annual Greene County 4-H Awards Ceremony, scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 8, at 2 pm at the Greene County High School auditorium. The public is welcome to attend.

  Two versions of this photo of the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower, which was first posted on GreeneCountyNewsOnline in August, 2014, are now being offered on canvas as a fundraiser for the Bell Tower Community Foundation. Tim Buenz is spearheading the fundraiser on his own initiative. All proceeds from the sale of the canvas prints will benefit the Foundation.

The calendar page turned to November but temperatures were pleasant during much of the week that ended Nov. 6. Volunteer weather observer John Beltz reported a high temperature of 78 degrees and a low temperature of 30 degrees during the week that ended Oct. 31 at 6 am.
