The Iowa Barn Foundation fall tour Sept. 26-27 brought folks on the gravel roads to appreciate the 90 preserved barns.
Mary and Larry Richards of rural Jamaica, Franklin Township, had visitors from Nebraska, Wisconsin and areas of Iowa including Davenport, Slater, Cambridge, Boone, Rockwell City, Auburn, Stratford, Klemme, Ogden, Ankeny, Winterset, Adel, Minburn, Jamaica and Jefferson.
One of the visitors was Don Erb, who was born in Franklin Township in Greene County. He left the area at the age of 4 years when his family moved to a rental farm in another county. Don toured the Thornburgh Home Place (now the Richards’ farm), horse barn, cow barn, crib, chicken house and summer kitchen which brought back good memories of farm life.
The IBF tour visitors picked cucumbers and tomatoes from Doc Richards garden to take with them. “It was a warm Saturday and Sunday shared with a warm glow of the wonderful people who toured Iowa barns,” Mary Richards said. ~The Scranton Journal
