Watch for a mobile speed sign on a highway near you

mobile speed signPurchasing a mobile speed sign is the plan for funds the Greene County sheriff’s office will receive from a grant from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau. The grant application was approved by the board of supervisors Oct. 12.

The grant is for $4,200. Sheriff Steve Haupert said the sign would cost more than that; he expects to use drug forfeiture money for the difference. The sign will be put at highway locations and will be available to cities in the county at different times.

There was no discussion of speed cameras with the signs.

Last year the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau grant paid for three in-car radar units.
