The Greene County Community Foundation’s annual fall fundraising campaign is in progress. Letters have been mailed to individuals and families who have previously donated as well as others who are known to be strong supporters of Greene County.
The Greene County Community Foundation was created in 2005 to provide residents a way they could donate funds to benefit the entire county for generations to come. The larger portion of funds donated to the community foundation are put into an endowment fund to cover future needs.
A small portion of the money donated locally is used for community projects. Most of the funds distributed by the foundation to local projects are gaming revenues that in the past have come through the state.
Community Foundation board president Tim Heisterkamp explains that the GCCF won’t change much with the opening of Wild Rose Casino. “We’ve been told by Grow Greene County that we’ll receive from that group at least as much as we got from the state as a non-gaming county,” Heisterkamp said. “And just as we’ve done since 2006, we’ll distribute that money through our grant program and invest most what we receive in our annual fundraising campaign in our endowment fund.”
The GCCF is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. All donations can be itemized as a deduction on a federal income taxes and may also be eligible for a state tax credit through the Endow Iowa tax credit program.
Donations to the GCCF should be made by Oct. 31 to tax advantage of the tax reductions available this year. Contributions can be mailed to the Greene County Community Foundation, PO Box 85, Jefferson, IA 50129, or dropped off at Home State Bank in Jefferson. (Note a change in local drop site since last year.) Donations can also be made online at www.greenecountycommunityfoundation.org
