JV team also splits, the other way
The Greene County varsity volleyball team lost to Gilbert and beat Boone in a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference mega night in Jefferson Tuesday.
Scores against Gilbert were 21-25, 16-25, 11-25.
Nadia Fisher was 12 of 12 serving with four aces and Katelyn Hagen was 10 of 11. Hannah Promes was credited with 16 assists. Fisher had five kills while Kenna Marquardt had four. Alison Gallagher led in digs with seven and Hagen had six.
Scores against Boone were 25-22, 25-23.
Hannah Stein was 10 of 10 serving, Fisher was 11 of 13, and Marquardt was seven of seven. Promes had 21 assists. Fisher had seven kills and Megan Durbin had four. Promes had seven digs and Hagen had five.
“We started the evening playing right with Gilbert up to 20 points and then errors caused us to lose that first game. After that we just couldn’t seem to regroup and get any momentum going,” coach Donna Carhill said. “After the Gilbert match we readjusted our passing and focus and played more as a team in the Boone match. Our hitting and passing improved in that match significantly and they held on for the win.”
The Rams are 11-13 overall and 2-4 in the HOIAC.
The junior varsity team beat Gilbert 21-16, 21-17, but fell to Boone 11-21, 11-21. Top servers were Katlyn McColley 9/9, Ashley Millard 6/6, Emily Heupel 14/15, Samantha Hardaway 12/13, and Jordan Teeples 10/11. Hardaway had five kills, two digs and 15 assists. Heupel had four kills, three digs and one assist, Chantel Flack had eight digs and Sydney Schiltz had seven digs.
In other JV action, the team played in a tournament in Audubon Saturday, Oct. 3. Teams played for two out of three sets to a score of 21. Set scores were not recorded, coach Carly Tiffany-Brown said.
The Rams were 3-2 in matches and in third place overall out of eight teams. Tiffany-Brown reports the following:
