The Jefferson public library will host author Roccie Hill for an author talk and book signing on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 10 am in the library meeting room. The public is invited to attend and welcome this author from California as she visits west central Iowa. Hill will talk about her new novel, Window of Exposure, published in 2015.
Window of Exposure is Hill’s second novel. The first, Three Minutes on Love, was published in 2008.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from UCLA and a master’s degree in creative writing from San Francisco State University. Her varied career includes eight years in Paris where, among other things, she worked with the French ambassador to Washington and Moscow. Prior to her years in Paris, she worked with Cezar Chavez in the United Farm Workers Union and for other non-profit organizations.
Hill is currently working on the sequel to Window of Exposure. Her other interests include painting nature, and landscape and portrait photography. Another interest is genealogy. Hill has traced her family back to the Mayflower and Jamestown. She shares her passion for genealogy and American history with other families through her genealogy ghost-writing services, in which she adds historical context to a family tree to create a personal family story in book form.
On being a writer, Hill said, “I have been a writer all of my life. This kind of commitment comes from my bones, and has never been something I could ignore. It is a little like an affliction of joy, as my psychological, emotional, intellectual and physical states melt together when I feel the words coming. For me, writing has always been a mesmerizing endeavor and an attempt to put my fingertips, however briefly, on a state of grace.”
About the book: Former US Air Force F-16 fighter pilot Captain Kate Cardenas now faces even greater challenges as a secret operative for the Defense Intelligence Agency stationed in the south of France. Her latest mission is the covert rescue of Hank Cullen, CEO of Cullen Industries—a key American military vendor kidnapped by terrorists outside of Paris.
