The courthouse will go into the winter months cleaner on the outside than it has been in years. Goodwin and Son of Jefferson will begin the large job of power washing the exterior of the historic building sometime this month.
The board of supervisors approved the bid of $15,845 for the job. That cost does not include water. County engineer Wade Weiss told the supervisors he will check with city officials about using metered water from a fire hydrant for the project. The county would pay only for water used, rather than paying the additional fee the city calculates based on water usage.
The last time the exterior of the courthouse was washed was about 15 years ago. The wash job is just one item on a “to-do” list in preparation for the courthouse’s centennial in 2017.
