In a game with limited offensive fire power Greene County Ram football fans can cheer about the performance of the Ram defense. The Rams lost to the Humboldt Wildcats in Humboldt Friday night by a 14-0 score. The Wildcats’ 14 points were below their season average of 23 points per game and well below the 54 points the Wildcats scored against Boone earlier this season.
Logan Lansman and Trey Tucker both intercepted Wildcat passes and Joe Thede recovered a Wildcat fumble. Mitchell Gorsuch had seven solo tackles and 10 assists. Keyden Pollock had four solo tackles and seven assists, Noah Juergensen had two solos and six assists, and Matthew Gordon had one solo and six assists. The Rams allowed the Wildcats 229 yards of total offense.
Freshman quarterback Clint Dennhardt had his introduction to varsity play as senior quarterback Daric Whipple was out due to illness earlier in the week. The Rams put together a total of 166 yards of offense. Dennhardt completed four of 20 passes for 74 yards in the air and was intercepted three times. He had negative yardage in rushing. Anthony Cunningham rushed for 57 yards in 10 attempt and Max Neese rushed for 52 yards in 15 attempts.
Greene County is 0-3 in Class 3A District 2 play and 2-4 overall.
In other Friday night games, Algona beat Perry 52-14. The Rams held Algona to 35 in a 28-35 loss earlier this season. Webster City scored 56 points against Iowa Falls-Alden for a 56-10 victory. Webster City scored 36 points against the Rams last week. ~The Scranton Journal contributed to this story
