JV wins both ends of triangular at Madrid
The Greene County varsity volleyball team won over Madrid and host Roland-Story in a tournament Sept. 28 but lost to the BCLUW (Conrad) Comets.
Game scores against Madrid were 22-20, 21-7, a start that coach Donna Carhill described as “rather sluggish.” Scores against BCLUW were 18-21, 16-21.
The Rams answered a defeat by the R-S Norsemen earlier in the season with a win this time, with scores 16-21, 21-18, 15-7. “We didn’t really hit our stride until the last match, the last two games. Then the team showed great enthusiasm and teamwork. It was enjoyable to win over a team that had beaten us just a few weeks ago,” Carhill said.
Junior Kenna Marquardt served at 23 of 25 with three aces and senior Katelyn Hagen served at 21 of 21 with two aces. Junior Hannah Promes was credited with 45 assists.
Sophomore Megan Durbin had 13 kills and junior Nadia Fisher had 17. Marquardt had 19 digs and Fisher had 14.
In other volleyball action, the junior varsity team won both ends of a triangular in Madrid Sept. 28.
Game scores against West Marshall were 21-15, 18-21, 15-11. Game scores against Madrid were 21-9, 20-22, 15-6.
Sydney Schiltz was 24 of 24 serving and had two aces. Jordan Teeples was 10 for 10 at the service line with three aces, and Ashley Millard was 19 of 20 and had two aces. Teeples had 14 kills and Onica Delp had nine. Chantel Flack had 19 digs and Samantha Hardaway had 29 assists. As a team, the Rams served at 90 percent, were 106 of 120 hitting and had 36 kills and 34 assists.
