There will be races in the Nov. 3 city elections for the mayor’s seat in Grand Junction and Scranton and for two Jefferson city council seats.
In Grand Junction David Kersey is challenging incumbent mayor Gerold F. Herrick. Incumbent council members Alan Robinson and Meladee Graven are running unopposed for re-election.
In Scranton, mayor BJ Wright is not seeking re-election. Running for that position are Tina Walker and Randy Winkelman. Voters will also elect three city council members. Incumbent Ethel Subbert and Connie A. Scrivner are on the ballot. The third seat will be filled by write-in. Incumbents Cole Gustoff and Orvie Umbaugh are not seeking re-election.
Also on the ballot in Scranton is Proposition B, which would reduce the number on the library board of trustees from seven to five, and shorten their terms from six to three years. The mayor appoints library trustees, subject to approval by the city council.
In Jefferson, there is no opposition to incumbent mayor Craig Berry. Shannon Black announced weeks ago she is not running for re-election to the at-large council position she has held for eight years. Seeking that position are Brandon Gustoff, Lisa Turner, MeLinda Madison-Millard, Brett Cranston and David Sloan. Matt Wetrich is running against incumbent council member Lisa Jaskey in District 2. All voters may vote for the district seats as well as the at-large seats.
In Churdan, with three council seats available, incumbents Steve Killeen and Roger M. Olson, are seeking re-election to the city council, and Jason Minnehan is also on the ballot for the position now held by Andrew Nygaard. Nygaard is not seeking re-election. Minnehan is now on the council as an appointment to fill a vacancy. Appointee Ann Meyer is not seeking election. Seeking election to complete the terms to which Meyer and Minnehan were appointed are Heidi Geisler and Nick Christianson.
In Dana, Mandy Sims is running for mayor; Sims is currently on the Dana city council. Incumbent Jack Pedersen is not seeking re-election. Anthony Sims and Karlan Langfitt are on the ballot for Mandy Sims’ position and a seat held by Jeremiah Pedersen. Jeremiah Pedersen is not seeking re-election. Christopher Jon Vargas is on the ballot to be elected to a vacancy to which he was previously appointed.
In Paton, incumbent mayor Steve Burrell is not seeking re-election and there is no candidate listed on the ballot. Incumbent city council members Judy Wilson, Casey Kaufman and Eric Geisler are all seeking re-election.
Rippey mayor Daniel Brubaker is unopposed for re-election, as are incumbent council members Ned Johnston, Richard Liebich and Jon Allen. Donald Carpenter is seeking election to fill a vacancy.
