Wind takes out power for 700-plus Jefferson residents

More than 700 Jefferson residents were without power for a time Tuesday evening in two outages that were most likely caused by the high wind.

The outages affected the southeast quadrant of Jefferson.

According to a spokesperson at Alliant Energy, the first outage started at 6:13 pm and it took crews until 7:55 to restore power to the 700 customers affected. Crews looked for downed trees or trees too close to power lines but didn’t find an obvious cause for the outage. The suspected cause is that the wind blew a tree into a line briefly or blew two power lines together. Either one would cause an outage that would need inspection before power can be restored.

The second outage started at 6:22 pm and power was restored at 8:03. Twelve customers were affected by that outage.

Alliant Energy will keep a watchful eye on the area, the spokesperson said.
