The Greene County FFA program is under the direction of new ag teacher Mrs Katie Akers. Mrs Akers is a native of Panora and a recent graduate of Iowa State University.
Recently a dozen students in the natural resources class helped fillet tilapia fish raised by the aquaculture students last school year. The fish fillets will be served in the spring at a FFA fish fry fundraiser. The students extend a big thanks to the custodians for helping keep the fish alive over the summer.
The FFA program is excited at the beginning of a new school year. Nearly 50 students registered at the first meeting on Sept. 7 and more students are contemplating membership.
The next project for the FFA is to help with the petting zoo at Deal’s Orchard Fall Festival Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 10-11. Students will help show children and adults how to properly handle different kinds of animals. ~The Scranton Journal
