CLIVE – A Jefferson woman has won a $250,000 prize playing the Iowa Lottery’s “$250,000 Club” instant-scratch game.
Shirley Drayer claimed her prize Monday at the lottery’s headquarters in Clive. She claimed the ninth of 12 top prizes of $250,000 available in the game.
Casey’s, 508 N. Elm St. in Jefferson sold the winning ticket.
Drayer is no stranger to winning big lottery prizes. She also claimed a $10,000 prize last September playing the same scratch game.
The $250,000 Club is a $20 scratch game. If a player matches any of “Your Numbers” to the “Club Numbers,” he/she wins a prize. If a player reveals a “Dollar Bill” symbol, he/she wins a prize automatically, and if a player reveals a “Money Bag” symbol, he/she wins triple the prize shown. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 2.88.
Three top prizes of $250,000 are still up for grabs in $250,000 Club, as well as 14 prizes of $10,000, 159 prizes of $1,000 and thousands of prizes between $100 and $500.
Since the lottery’s start in 1985, its players have won more than $3.5 billion in prizes while the lottery has raised more than $1.6 billion for the state programs that benefit all Iowans.
Today, lottery proceeds in Iowa have three main purposes: They provide support for veterans, help for a variety of significant projects through the state General Fund, and backing for the Vision Iowa program, which was implemented to create tourism destinations and community attractions in the state and build and repair schools.
