To the editor,
It’s hard to see the best intentions of others when you disagree.
We have a big decision to make in the next few days. Do we want to obligate a 20 million dollar bond to build new facilities?
Some of us look at this as an expensive bill we just don’t need; it will raise property taxes, rent and could stifle population and job growth. Others view this as a necessary expense for our children that will enhance education and help grow our community. I haven’t been quiet in my opposition to the bond.
No matter which side of the fence you sit, let’s remember we are neighbors. When somebody disagrees we usually rationalize that the other person is somehow flawed. We jump to conclusions that they are less intelligent, selfish or have some other type of social imperfection. However, the usual culprit is almost always a difference in priorities.
The people that are for this bond are not selfish. They generally believe this is an investment in the children and the community. The people that are against this bond are not selfish. They genuinely think this is a tough cost to swallow as we try and grow our community. We need to encourage job growth in Greene County so our children can graduate and remain in our community.
Vote your heart at the poll September 8. Vote what you think is best for your community. But regardless on where you stand on this ballot issue, remember that both sides want what is best for our families and our neighbors. If we remember that on September 8, regardless of the outcome, we will be a stronger community on September 9.
