Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:
Monday, Aug. 31: At 1:50 pm the chief deputy sheriff investigated the reported theft of items from the Sparky’s One Stop in Rippey. At 2:56 pm the chief deputy sheriff was asked to assist the Boone County Sheriff’s Office with a possible forgery case.
Sunday, Aug. 30: At 1:44 am a deputy was dispatched to investigate a reported hit and run accident that occurred in the 400 block of Rebecca St in Grand Junction. Christopher Cole Bishop, 29, of Grand Junction was parked at his residence when an unknown vehicle struck his 2004 Dodge Intrepid SE. The Bishop vehicle sustained major damage and the other vehicle is being sought. At 2:25 am a resident in the 200 block of S. 19th St in Grand Junction returned home to find an intruder in his home and a burglary in progress. The intruder fled through a window as the home owner arrived home. The deputy was just a few blocks away investigating the previous call and began looking for the described male subject. The identity of the male is believed to be known at this time. At 10:38 am a deputy was dispatched to motorcycle-deer accident on County Road N-65 (D Ave) near 195th St in Kendrick Township. Minor damage was sustained to the motorcycle and the owner did not need a report filed. A DNR salvage tag was issued to the motorcycle driver for consumption of the deer. At 11:43 am a deputy was dispatched to the 900 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction to investigate a reported burglary and theft money. The theft is under investigation by the sheriff’s office at this time.
Saturday, Aug. 29: At 11:42 am a deputy was advised by a Carroll County resident that her vehicle license plates were taken from her car while she was at an auction in the 800 block of Q Ave in Hardin Township in Greene County. At 12:37 pm Greene County dispatchers were advised of a semi-tractor trailer that had become stuck on a level B maintenance road on 335th St and A Ave in Willow Township. The owners advised that the truck would be removed at a later time. At 1:40 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 100 block of 210th St in Kendrick Township for the report of a shotgun being discharged. The resident was advised of the safety issue with the neighbors. At 6:30 pm a deputy was unable to contact a resident in the 900 block of E. Main St in Scranton to investigate a reported theft of property. At 11:31 pm a deputy , Grand Junction rescue and Greene County EMS were dispatched to the 400 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction for an unknown male subject that that was lying in a yard and needing medical attention. The identity of the male was determined and he was transported to the Greene County Medical Center for further evaluation.
Friday, Aug. 28: At 12:53 am after an investigation, a deputy will be charging a female in the 500 block of Bell Street in Churdan with harassment. At 10:40 am, the chief deputy sheriff and a JPD officer provided court house security after a male became belligerent during court proceedings. At 1:26 pm three members of the Greene County sheriff’s office investigated several harassment and criminal mischief concerns in the Churdan area. At 2:27 pm a deputy was dispatched to investigate a minor backing accident in the Casey’s General Store parking lot in Scranton. At 5:09 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 200 block of S. 19th St in Grand Junction to investigate a reported burglary and theft of personal property and prescription medications. At 5:41 pm a deputy assisted a JPD officer with a call in the 300 block of N. Wilson.
Thursday, Aug. 27: At 2:01 pm two deputies and Churdan rescue were dispatched to a reported single vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 4 just east of Churdan. Paul Raymond Fay, 67, of Churdan was westbound on Highway 4 when his 2000 Chrysler Town and Country mini-van entered the south ditch near J Ave. Fay was transported to Greene County Medical Center for further evaluation. Only minor damage was reported to his vehicle.
Wednesday, Aug. 26: At 7:02 am a deputy assisted the JPD with an accident at the intersection of N. Maple and Adams St. At 10:30 am a deputy was dispatched to Grand Junction for the report of a pet pig running at large on E. Main St near 14th St. The owner of the pig was advised and retrieved the elusive swine. At 2:45 pm a deputy and the Jefferson fire chief extinguished a reported burning pile of clothing along the side of the roadway on 222nd Street near Pioneer Ave in Grant Township.
Tuesday, Aug. 25: At 9:00 am, a deputy investigated the report of a vehicle passing a stopped Paton-Churdan school bus in the 1000 block of Highway 4 (140th St) east of Churdan. The driver of the car was identified and will be issued a citation for unlawful passing of a school bus-first offense, with a court appearance required and a fine of $435. At 4:53 pm a deputy was advised of the possible theft of a golf cart from the Hill Golf Course.
Monday, Aug. 24: At 12:13 am a deputy was assisted by a JPD officer in locating a reported stolen vehicle that was taken from a rural residence in the 2000 block of M Ave in Greenbrier Township and later located in 300 block of Reed St in Jefferson. After an investigation by the deputy, Patrick Michael Kennedy, 30, of Jefferson was arrested for operation of a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent* (aggravated misdemeanor). At 7:30 am a deputy was dispatched to a residence in Scranton to assist a parent with a reported out of control juvenile. The deputy persuaded the youth that taking his medication and going back to school would be in his best interest. At 4:43 pm a deputy and Grand Junction fire and rescue responded to a farm implement –car accident on the Union Pacific railroad overpass on Highway 30 east of Grand Junction. Cory James Schwering, 20, of Ogden was driving a pickup truck pulling a farm implement eastbound on the overpass when a westbound 2014 Nissan Murano driven by Richard Lee Bratcher, 61, of Grand Junction struck the implement that was over the centerline of the highway. Only minor damage was reported to the Bratcher vehicle and no damage to the disk ripper. Schwering was issued a citation for failure to yield half the roadway.
Sunday, Aug. 23: At 3:07 am, a deputy was asked to speak with a resident about an assault that occurred in Greene County. At 2:45 pm a deputy spoke with a Grand Junction resident in the 700 block of 11th Street South about a child custody and harassment concern.
Saturday, Aug. 22: At 8:27 pm a deputy, while on routine patrol was northbound on County Road P-46 (W Ave) near 260th St in Junction Township when a deer ran onto the roadway and was struck by the deputy’s patrol vehicle. There was no damage to the vehicle and no report was needed.
Friday, Aug. 21: At 1:26 am a deputy investigated criminal mischief to a window at the FC Cooperative in Churdan.
Thursday, Aug. 20: At 7:16 pm a deputy assisted the Boone County sheriff’s office with a traffic accident on Highway 144 at the Angus curve, southeast of Rippey.
Wednesday, Aug. 19: At 2:09 pm a deputy assisted a Department of Transportation enforcement officer with escorting a semi-tractor trailer to Sparky’s One Stop in Jefferson after the driver was issued a citation for no log book. At 2:52 pm a deputy was dispatched to a two vehicle accident at the intersection of 130th St and L Ave in Highland Township. Kristen Rae Lefebvre, 16, of rural Churdan was northbound on L Ave driving a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer when she failed to stop at the stop sign and struck an eastbound 1998 Nissan Maxima being driven by Jacob Dennis Smith, 36, of rural Paton. Both drivers were transported to the Greene County Medical Center by the Churdan Rescue for further evaluation. Both vehicles were estimated to be a total loss. Lefebvre was issued a citation for failure to obey a stop sign.
Tuesday, Aug. 18: At 5:16 pm two deputies assisted JPD officers with the arrest of several persons in the 400 block of N. Olive St.
Monday, Aug. 17: At 6:25 pm a deputy and two units from the Greene County Emergency Medical Services responded to a reported two vehicle accident at the intersection of Highways 30 and 25 north of Scranton. Lynette Marie Brown, 47, of Deerfield Beach, FL, was eastbound on Highway 30 and slowed to turn south onto Highway 25 when an eastbound semi-tractor trailer being driven by Christopher Douglas Dzuris, 39, of Jefferson failed to slow, and struck Brown’s vehicle in the rear. Brown and three other passengers in her vehicle were transported to the Greene County Medical Center for further evaluation with minor injuries reported. Brown’s car was estimated to be a total loss. Dzuris was not injured and the semi sustained only minor damage. The accident is still under investigation by the sheriff’s office at this time.
Sunday, Aug. 16: At 11:32 am a deputy was dispatched to the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction to investigate a reported domestic assault. After an investigation the deputy arrested Omar Felon Estrada, 29, of Grand Junction for domestic abuse assault – serious*. At 12:37 pm, a deputy is investigated a reported domestic assault that occurred in 900 block of Linn St in Scranton.
Saturday, Aug. 15: At 2:15 pm, a deputy assisted the Iowa State Patrol with a traffic stop and the subsequent arrest of Matthew David Blair, 37, of Scranton on an outstanding warrant from Carroll County. At 5 pm a deputy was dispatched to a reported single vehicle roll-over accident that occurred on S Ave near 110th St in Paton Township. Laura Elizabeth Kopecky, 52, of Farnhamville, was southbound on S Ave when she lost control of her 2005 Chevrolet Impala and it entered the east ditch, rolling once. Kopecky was not injured but her car was estimated to be a total loss.
Friday, Aug. 14: At 4:36 pm several members of the Greene County sheriff’s office assisted the Guthrie County sheriff’s office with a vehicle pursuit into Greene County from Guthrie County. The Greene County chief deputy sheriff deployed his spike strips on Highway 30 at M Ave in an attempt to slow or stop the vehicle. The car went into the ditch on Highway 30 in front of Sparky’s One Stop in Jefferson. A Guthrie County deputy arrested and transported the female driver back to Guthrie County. The JPD along with other law enforcement agencies also assisted.
Thursday, Aug. 13: At 3:33 pm, a deputy assisted a probation officer with checking a male subject in the 300 block of Main St West in Grand Junction. The deputy subsequently arrested Antwan Marquel Bell, 21, of Manson on an outstanding Calhoun County warrant.

Tuesday, Aug. 11: At 12:40 am a deputy was dispatched to the 100 block of Elizabeth St West in Grand Junction to investigate criminal mischief to a pickup window and theft of a car stereo and money. At 5:59 pm, a deputy was dispatched to talk with several youth at the city park in Scranton. At 8:45 pm two Greene County deputies, a Carroll County deputy, a Coon Rapids police officer and an Iowa State trooper all assisted the Guthrie County sheriff’s office with a vehicle pursuit that started in Guthrie County and proceeded into Greene County before ending in Coon Rapids.
Monday, Aug. 10: At 10:04 am a deputy was dispatched to the 1000 block of 240th St in Jackson Township to investigate criminal mischief to a mailbox. At 1:40 pm the chief deputy sheriff and K-9 Leo searched a vehicle in Jefferson. At 9:43 pm a deputy was advised of an off-road dirt bike being ridden around the park in Scranton. The motorcycle operator was found and advised not to be on the streets. At 11:08 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 400 block of Sand St in Churdan to investigate the reported theft of a lawn mower.
Sunday, Aug. 9: At 12:32 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 900 block of Irving St in Scranton for a rogue woodchuck roaming their yard. At 1:22 pm a deputy was dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of State St in Scranton to investigate a reported strange noise coming from the basement. The source of the noise was not found, and several juveniles in the home were assured that nothing was in the basement. At 8:12 pm a deputy was advised of several overdue river floaters on the Raccoon River between the Jackson Hill Bridge and Henderson Park. The deputy checked several locations and was soon advised that the river floaters had reached the park.

Friday, Aug. 7: At 10:05 am a deputy and the sheriff investigated a reported fire south of Jefferson along the bike trail near the trestle bridge. The fire was a controlled burn near the old dump. At 10:47 am a deputy assisted the Sioux City police department with locating a Greene County resident. At 12:50 pm a deputy was advised of a gas drive off from the Paton Pit Stop gas station. Polk County law enforcement was advised of the vehicle owner and description of the car. At 9:05 pm several deputies and JPD officers assisted a jailer with an unruly and belligerent male inmate at the Greene County jail. At 9:50 pm a deputy was advised of a possible underage drinking party in the 1000 block of 237th St in Jackson Township. The deputy located the party spot but found no one at the campsite. Coolers and alcohol were confiscated by the deputy at that time. At 10:12 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction to investigate a reported burglary and theft of personal property.

Wednesday, Aug. 5: At 8 am Greene County dispatchers were advised of cattle on the bike trail near 252nd St in Grant Township. The cattle owner was advised of the situation. At 8:06 am, a deputy was advised of cattle along County Road E-19 (140th St) between County Road N-68 and E Ave in Cedar Township. Several cattle owners were advised of the cattle’s location. At 10:13 am, the sheriff was dispatched to a vehicle experiencing mechanical difficulty on County Road P-33 near the Union Pacific railroad tracks in Junction Township. The driver was issued citations for driving while suspended and failure to prove security against liability. At 10:16 am a deputy was dispatched to the 400 block of 9th Street South in Grand Junction to investigate a reported burglary. At 11:05 am a deputy spoke with a home owner in the 300 block of 3rd St in Rippey about a male subject trespassing on his property. At 2:59 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 300 block of Hendricks St in Rippey to investigate a reported theft.
Tuesday, Aug. 4: At 6:01 pm a deputy was advised of a gas drive off from the Paton Pit Stop gas station. The car and driver were later located in Calhoun County and advised to contact the Pit Stop.
Monday, Aug. 3: At 2:18 am, a deputy was dispatched to a single vehicle accident on Highway 30 near Hillcrest Ave east of Scranton. Peter Andrew Poland, 50, of Carroll, was westbound on Highway 30 when he struck a cow that had walked onto the roadway. Poland was not injured but his 2006 Toyota Avalon was estimated to be a total loss. At 3:29 pm a deputy assisted an off duty DOT Enforcement officer with stopping a westbound semi-tractor trailer near Jefferson after the semi had blown a tire and left debris along the highway.
Sunday, Aug. 2: At 1:38 am, a deputy was advised of a Scranton male that had not returned home after a golf outing at the Lakeside Golf Course on Saturday. The male subject was later located after being involved in a traffic accident in Cherokee County. At 11:23 pm a deputy, Greene County EMS and the Jefferson fire department were dispatched to single vehicle accident that occurred at the T intersection of 195th St and Orchard Ave in Hardin Township. A 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 pickup being driven by Albert John Wolfe, 23, of Glidden, was westbound on 195th St when he drove off the roadway. Wolfe struck a tree at an abandoned farm site after driving through the T intersection at Orchard Ave. Wolfe was transported to the Greene County Medical Center for medical attention. Albert Wolfe will be charged with operation of a motor vehicle while intoxicated – second offense, driving while suspended, failure to maintain control and no insurance*. A damage estimate for his 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 pickup truck was not reported.
Saturday, Aug. 1: At 6:07 pm a deputy assisted a Jefferson police officer with traffic control after an accident at the Highway 4 and 30 intersection. At 9:15 pm a deputy was dispatched to a car-deer accident that occurred on Highway 30 near K Ave west of Jefferson. Richard Donald Nagl, 57, of Carroll, was westbound on Highway 30 when a deer ran onto the roadway and was struck. Nagl was not injured but his 2009 Mercury Milan sustained an estimated $4,500 in damages. At 9:32 pm a deputy was advised of a car-deer accident that occurred on Highway 30 at County Road P-14 (J Ave) west of Jefferson. Tanya Lea Tope, 22, of Ames was westbound when a deer ran onto the roadway and was struck. Damage to Tope’s 1994 Cadillac Deville was estimated to be $2,000. Tope was issued a citation for driving while suspended.
*In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
