The Greene County Rams (30-6) play the Crestwood (Cresco) Cadets (25-5) in 3A state tournament softball Tuesday in Fort Dodge.
In comparing some statistics, it’s important to remember the Rams have played six more games than the Cadets. Other statistics that are given as percentages are more useful.
Batting: In batting statistics (by QuikStats), the Rams have an overall team batting average of .336, while the Cadets are at .342.
Cadet junior Jessica McGee was at bat only twice in the season but hit a double for a batting average of .500, and sophomore Elle McConnell batted twice but got singles both times for a batting average of 1.000. Taking those two players out of consideration, the Cadets Number 1 batter is senior Madison Sickles with a batting average of .406. Sophomore Lauren Riekcs bats at .403 and junior Machaela Wiltgen bats at .400.
The Cadets have hit a total of 16 homeruns, one triple, 65 doubles and 227 singles. Their slugging average is .470. Runs batted in totals 189.
Junior Sydney Koch leads the Rams in batting averages at .441, followed by sophomore Hannah Promes at .400. Senior Emily Christensen is close behind at .395. The Rams have hit 25 homeruns, 14 triples, 63 doubles and 254 singles. Their slugging average is .493. Runs batted in totals 247.
Pitching: The Cadets use two pitchers; sophomore Lauren Reicks has an 18-3 record and freshman Kaylie Thomas has a 7-1 record. Reicks in 145 innings has struck out 90 batters, walked 28, and hit one with a pitch. Her earned run average is 2.12. Thomas in 55 innings has struck out 26 batters, walked 12 and hit two with pitches. Her ERA is 3.95. Junior Katie Chapman pitched three innings.
The Rams have relied on senior pitcher Marissa Promes, who has compiled a 29-3 record. In 211 innings, she has struck out 228 batters, walked 40 and hit 14 with pitches. Her ERA is 1.96. Seniors Kayla Mobley and Hannah Onken, sophomore Hannah Promes and freshman Samantha Hardaway pitched a total of 19-2/3 innings between them.
Fielding: The Cadets’ fielding average is .958, with 603 putouts, 977 catches and 41 errors. The Cadets committed .20 errors per inning.
The Rams’ fielding average is .939, with 690 putouts, 1004 catches and 61 errors. The Rams committed .26 errors per inning.
