The Jefferson Garden Club’s July Yard of the Month award goes to Vi Goodwin, a retired daycare provider, who lives at 606 W. State St.
Goodwin’s yard is anything but ordinary. In the middle of the front yard an arbor is covered with sweet autumn clematis. A pink bicycle sits among coneflowers, trumpet vine and buttercups. The bike has special significance as it was given to her by a friend of her late daughter Vicki. The color pink, Vicki’s favorite color, also represents Vi’s struggle with breast cancer.
In the back a painted wall showing garden scenes surrounds an area that has become a memory garden to Vicki. Many varieties of flowers including violets, hostas and ferns, grow in abundance. In the same area you’ll see a rock garden, bird houses, potted flowers and knick knacks.
