Winning streaks don’t last forever. In Heart of Iowa softball, it’s the Roland-Story Norsemen who snapped a 23-game home winning streak and an 18-game conference winning streak for the Greene County Rams. The Norsemen topped the Rams 5-3 at the city field in Jefferson Thursday.
League teams will be seeing R-S winning pitcher, freshman Sydney Mathis, in years to come. The Rams, powerful hitters all season, were held to only three hits, two singles and a three-run homerun by Marissa Promes.
The Rams led 3-2 after Promes’s homer in the fourth inning, but the Norsemen got two unearned runs in the top of the fifth inning. They added another run in the sixth, for the final score of 5-3.
The Rams are 25-6 overall and 15-1 in the HOIAC. The Norsemen are 7-11 in the conference.
The Rams host CMB Friday at 7:30 pm. CMB is second place in the conference, but the Rams have the title locked up regardless of Friday’s outcome.
