The Greene County secondary roads crews put about $25,000 worth of material on county road after last week’s heavy rainfall, county engineer Wade Weiss told the county supervisors Monday morning.
The heavy rain Wednesday and into Thursday morning put water over the road in 200 locations around the county. Secondary road crews worked overtime Wednesday night putting up signage to warn motorists and spent Thursday and Friday hauling dirt and gravel and removing signs once water receded. “Luckily the water receded and we got it cleaned up easily,” Weiss said.
He did not provide the cost of overtime hours, noting that most of the secondary roads employees prefer to take comp time rather than overtime pay. “That really helps the budget,” he said.
“They all did an excellent job,” supervisor Tom Contner said about the secondary roads crew. “I can’t say anything bad about it.”
