Greene County senior Hannah Onken had a whopping seven runs batted in to push the Rams to a 10-4 softball victory over the North Polk Comets in Alleman June 29. She hit a three run homer n the third inning and a grand slam in the fourth. They were her sixth and seventh home runs of the season.
Jenna Beyers hit a double. Kayla Mobley and Bailey Godwin both hit a pair of singles, and Carleigh Paup and Tressa Rasmussen hit one each. Mobley had two RBIs for the game.
Marissa Promes struck out seven batters and walked two. She allowed nine hits and three earned runs.
The softball team is 12-0 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference and 22-5 overall. They play a doubleheader in Gilbert Tuesday evening. The Comets are 8-6 in the HOIAC and 15-13 overall.
In baseball, the Rams beat the Comets 7-1 in Jefferson. Senior Colton Fitzpatrick struck out seven batters, walked one and hit one with a pitch. He allowed five hits, all singles. The Comets’ only run came in the seventh inning.
Senior Alex Rasmussen was the first to score on a solo home run to deep center field on the first pitch to him. It was Rasmussen’s second home run for the season and his 21st RBI. He also hit a single.
Riah Nelsen hit a double for an RBI. Daric Whipple, Fitzpatrick and Reid Lamoureux each hit a double and a single. Fitzpatrick had two RBIs and Lamoureux had one. Jordan Hostetler brought in a run on a squeeze bunt and Jordan Challen and Dylan McConnell both added base hits. Greene County totaled 11 hits for the game and committed one error.
The baseball team is 9-4 in the HOIAC and 13-9 overall. They have Tuesday off but play a doubleheader against Roland-Story in Jefferson on Wednesday.
