Girls top Southeast Valley, boys fall to Bondurant-Farrar

The Rams split games again Thursday (June 18) with the softball team winning 11-1 in six innings against Southeast Valley (Gowrie) in Jefferson and the baseball team losing 6-0 to Bondurant-Farrar in Bondurant. Both were non-conference games.

At the city field, Ram pitcher Marissa Promes allowed only two hits. She struck out five batters and walked none.

Offensively, the Rams had 15 hits, including seven for extra base hits. They led 6-0 after two innings and 9-0 after four. The Jaguars scored their lone run in the fifth inning.

Emily Christensen hit a two run homer and a triple. Hannah Onken also hit a two-run homer and added two doubles. They each claimed two RBIs for the game. Eighth grader Jenna Beyers hit a double and a single. She played for right fielder Sydney Koch, who broke a finger Wednesday night in Colfax. Promes doubled, Tressa Rasmussen hit three singles and drew a walk, and Bailey Godwin hit a single that scored two runs. Kayla Mobley hit two singles and Carleigh Paup hit one.

The Rams are now 14-2 on the season and 9-0 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. They travel to Monroe Friday for a game rescheduled from Monday.

On the diamond in Bondurant, the Rams held a 2-1 lead after batting in the third inning, but the Bluejays scored seven runs in the bottom of the third to take an 8-2 lead. The Rams scored four in the fifth for an 8-6 score. The Bluejays last two runs came in the sixth inning.

Senior Dylan McConnell pitched the first 2-1/3 innings and took the loss. He gave up eight runs, three of them earned, on seven hits. He hit two batters with pitches and walked two. Junior Tyler Beger pitched the rest of the game. He allowed two runs, both of them earned, on three hits and one walk. He struck out one batter.

The Ram baseball team is now 8-7 overall and 6-3 in the HOIAC. They return to league play Friday with a home game against CMB.
