The Iowa State Patrol has released preliminary information about a personal injury crash on Highway 30 east of Jefferson at 1:44 pm Tuesday. The crash closed Highway 30 for five hours.
According to the ISP’s crash report, Patricia Peters, 58, of Carroll was westbound driving a 2008 Chevrolet Impala when she crossed the center line and struck the front driver’s side of an eastbound 2014 Peterbuilt semi tractor-trailer rig driving by William Moffett, 52, of Crane, MO.
Paul Daggett, 27, of Minburn was following Peters driving a 2001 Chevy Tahoe. He swerved, braking to avoid the collision, but entered the north ditch and his vehicle rolled. Peters’ Impala came to rest facing northwest on the north shoulder of the road. The semi ended up in a corn field on the north side of the road.
Peters was the only driver injured in the accident. She was transported to Greene County Medical Center by Greene County Emergency Medical Services. The preliminary report said she was wearing a seatbelt.
According to sheriff Steve Haupert, a fourth driver ended up in the ditch after he took evasive action to avoid the semi as it veered to the left when its front left tire was disabled. The fourth vehicle was a non-contact vehicle and the driver was not named in the ISP report. Haupert was unable to name the driver.
The Greene County sheriff’s office, Jefferson fire department and Iowa Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
