With rainy weather impacting the summer sports calendar, Greene County softball head coach accepted an invitation to play the East Marshall Mustangs in LeGrand. It was a rematch of both teams’ last state tournament game last summer in Fort Dodge. In that game, the Rams topped the Mustangs 10-3 to claim third place in the state tournament. The Mustangs got the win Friday on their home field, 8-2.
Senior pitchers Marissa Promes and Mariah Fritz faced off again. In the tournament game, the Rams got 11 hits off Fritz, struck out seven times and walked eight times. Friday, Fritz allowed only five hits. She struck out eight batters and walked four. For the Rams, Promes allowed six hits. She only walked one batter but hit two with pitches. The Rams committed four errors and allowed three unearned runs.
The Rams scored an unearned run in the top of the first inning and scored on a Tressa Rasmussen solo home run in the second inning.
The Rams are now 12-1 overall and 11-0 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference.
