The Ram softball team has won a dozen games with a 6-2 road win over Saydel Wednesday. The Rams are now 8-0 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference and 12-0 overall.
Senior pitcher Marissa Promes is 11-0 on the season. Against the Eagles she allowed two earned runs on three hits. She struck out seven batters, walked one, and hit three with pitches. The Rams had no errors on defense, while the Eagles were charged with three.
The Rams had a total of 11 hits, including two doubles from eighth grader Jenna Beyers. It was Beyers’ first varsity start as she played for Emma Saddoris who was ill. Emily Christensen doubled and hit a single, Sydney Koch and Kayla Mobley each hit two singles, and Carleigh Paup, Promes and Tressa Rasmussen had one single each. The Rams stranded 11 runners on base.
The Rams are scheduled to play CMB in Jefferson Thursday night.
On the baseball diamond, the Rams had only five hits and were scoreless until the seventh inning in a 4-1 loss to Saydel.
Senior Colton Fitzpatrick allowed one earned run on four hits in six innings. He struck out five batters and walked one. The Rams had four errors as Saydel had two.
The Rams’ bats were connecting as well as in previous games. Tyler Beger hit a single in the seventh inning that brought in the Rams’ only run. Daric Whipple hit three singles and Dylan McConnell had one single.
The Rams are now 5-3 in conference play and 7-5 overall. The Eagles’ win was their sixth consecutive. They’ve allowed no more than one run in any of those six games. They are 6-2 in the HOIAC and 9-4 overall.
The Ram baseball team is scheduled to play the Carroll Tigers in Carroll Thursday evening.
