Gary and Mary Weaver hosted their daughter, Theresa and her family from Sioux City on Friday and Saturday of the Memorial Day weekend.  They were joined by David, Emily, and Ada for the evening meal and Saturday breakfast.

Gary and Mary and his brothers Dale of Ottumwa and Dean of Boone and their wives had breakfast together on Sunday morning.  Dale and Dean had attended the Dana Alumni meeting on Saturday night.

Roy and Phyllis Bardole traveled to Wisconsin May 29 for the weekend with Jason, Allison, Levi, Kate, and Chase. Roy had made a sideboard for them and they had not seen them since February! It rained Saturday, so the soccer game of Levi was cancelled, but the gymnastics events for Levi and Kate were still on. Roy went to Levi’s with Jason. Phyllis stayed back with Chase since he was napping. Allison and Levi went with some friends to the Brewers game that afternoon.  It was Star Wars day, so Levi wore his costume. The family celebrated Roy’s birthday with cake and ice cream at noon and grilled out in the evening when the rain stopped. Sunday Kate was sick, so Phyllis went with Jason to Levi’s swim lessons with some friends.  They left to come home at noon. They had a nice weekend!

Steady winds and cloudy skies met about 100 attendees of Memorial Day ceremonies held Monday morning at the Rippey Cemetery.

Members of Rippey’s Kinkead-Martin American Legion Post 583 provided the Honor Guard.

Mary Weaver of Rippey welcomed those assembled. She recognized the beauty of the cemetery, and thanked the Washington Township trustees. She also thanked the American Legion Post for providing services at five different cemeteries during the weekend. She gave a brief history of Kinkead-Martin Legion Post 583 reviewing it was named for a Civil War as well as a WWI veteran. She introduced Rippey United Methodist Church Pastor Enna Antunez who delivered the invocation as well as prepared remarks about what American freedoms mean to her, a native of Honduras. Beverly Derry placed a wreath at the Veterans Memorial; a 21-gun salute concluded the ceremonies. Legionnaires taking part in the ceremonies included Post Commander Gary Schmitt, Dennis Ulrich, Ben Vanatta, Chris Kilmer, Dale Whitehead, Mike Scharingson, and La Vere Derry, a 58-year member of the Rippey Post.

A luncheon was held at the church following the observances at the cemetery. ThePerryNews.com
