The Greene County Rams won a pair of games via the 10-run rule against the Nevada Cubs Wednesday. The baseball team got their fourth win for the season with a 5-inning 10-0 score. The softball team played six innings before the game was called at 12-1.
At Allensworth Field senior pitcher Riah Nelsen struck out nine Cubs, walked none, and allowed only two singles. In his 11 innings pitching for the season, he has 23 strikeouts and just two walks.
The Rams tallied 14 hits. Nelsen and senior Jordan Challen both had a double and two singles. Seniors Alex Rasmussen, and Jordan Hostetler hit two singles each, junior Tyler Beger hit two singles, and juniors Daric Whipple and Reid Lamoureux hit one single each.
The Ram baseball team is 4-1 on the season and in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. The boys have their first non-conference game of the season Thursday evening at Winterset.
The softball team ended Wednesday night’s game with a three-run home in the bottom of the sixth inning by senior Tressa Rasmussen. The Rams had 10 hits, including a triple by junior Carleigh Paup and doubles by junior Sydney Koch and senior Kayla Mobley. Koch added two singles and all other starters had one hit. Rasmussen and Mobley had three RBIs and Paup and senior Marissa Promes had two each. Eighth grader Megan Carey got her first varsity RBI and senior Bailey Godwin also got an RBI.
Senior pitcher Marissa Promes struck out 10 Cubs and walked one. The Cubs’ lone run was earned on one hit. The Rams had one error in the game; the Cubs were tagged with three.
The Ram softball team is 8-0 on the season and 5-0 in the HOIAC. The girls play the Roland-Story Norsemen in Roland Thursday evening.
