Greene County Medical Center’s care management services department is starting a chronic disease support group. This new program will offer a compassionate and caring atmosphere for those suffering from chronic diseases.
Sessions are scheduled to meet beginning Tuesday, May 26, from 4 to 5 pm in the cardiac management area on Level B of the medical center. Future sessions have been scheduled for Monday, July 27, and Monday, Sept. 28.
Sessions will include guest speakers, educational outreach and group discussion – all in ways to help support those suffering from chronic disease. The program is free and open to the general public.
Studies show that one out of every two Americans has at least one chronic disease and that chronic diseases account for 75 percent of the $2 trillion spent on health care each year in the United States. The most common chronic diseases include arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, cancer and stroke. The support group will be open to the discussion of any chronic disease that attendees want or need to talk about.
